Thrift Store Haul

Thrift Store Haul

Come see what I found at the thrift store this weekend!!

I try to stop in to my favorite local thrift stores a few times a month. Many days I come home empty-handed which is for the best! But often, I find something. Some days, like today, I find a lot of things!

It's mostly just a hobby for me because it takes a big time commitment. But if you enjoy it, then you can save a lot of money on things your family needs. It is really fun to find something you love and could never find anywhere else. I always feel proud when I get compliments on some cool thing I thrifted in my home or wardrobe. I keep a running list of things I might want and don't want to purchase new and usually I find that I can wait until it turns up at the thrift store. I also love to surprise friends and family by finding something they mentioned wanting and being able to give it to them as a gift for less than the cost of buying them coffee.

Also, I'm always decluttering and figuring out what I like and also the kids grow so fast and need new things and need me to make space for their things, so trying to find items secondhand just makes sense. If the price is right, I don't have any guilt about using and enjoying something for a while and re-donating it when it's time for a change. My sister jokes that the thrift store is her storage facility and if you think of it that way, the storage fees are pretty low! There must be something to it because her house is beautifully simple and minimal even with 3 kids.

Ok, so here's what I found this time!

milk glass prep bowls

A couple small vintage milk glass prep bowls! I have a couple larger ones, so this will really round out my stack, plus a friend was admiring one of my other milk glass bowls, so I'll give one of these to her. They were $5 each.

Another friend mentioned she wanted to start collecting some baskets to create a display on her wall, so for $3, I got these 4 plain baskets to help fill out her basket wall! According to my mom, these are vintage and were once meant for holding paper plate holders—who knew?

I needed a new pencil cup after re-arranging where my office supplies go, and this cute little Princess House sugar bowl missing its lid will do the job perfectly! $2

brightroom basket

This Brightroom brand Target basket. Not exactly an incredible find since they wanted $5 which is 50% of retail, but I like this particular basket because it's all natural materials and it's very flexible, so it won't break when my kids abuse it and it will look nice camouflaging toys in our living room.

I also found some Children's books including Sneeches, The Lorax which we didn't have yet; The Best Mother Goose Ever by Richard Scarry; plus a Loveevery baby lock box toy for $3 at a different shop yesterday.

And the find I'm most excited about is this super fun, retro, vintage watermelon picnic basket in beautiful shape I am estimating is circa the 1950s or possibly even a bit earlier. I snagged it for $7! I saw a few on eBay and Etsy listed for $150, but I am definitely going to be using and enjoying it all summer long! I can already picture the fun we'll have using at the beach, the park, and on road trips.

Comment your most exciting thrift store find! I love the thrill of the treasure hunt.
