Unverified claims, no NSF certification, alkaline water marketing
Replace filters on schedule — an old filter can harbor bacteria and re-release contaminants. Check your local water report at EWG's Tap Water Database to know what you need to filter. RO systems waste water but provide the most thorough filtration. Gravity filters (Berkey) need no plumbing.
"Alkaline water" has no proven health benefits and is mostly marketing. "Filtered" water bottles with basic carbon filters only remove chlorine taste, not contaminants. Always check which NSF standard a filter is certified to — NSF 42 (taste) is very different from NSF 53 (health contaminants).
